FAQs for 1Password Alternatives
Bitwarden provides extra protection with tools and enterprise policies in place to encourage and enforce strong master passwords, require two-step login, integrate Login with SSO, and add multi-layer server-side encryption to keep vault data safe.
This accomplishes the goal of the 1Password secret key without the risk of losing the key and with it, access to your accounts.
Bitwarden uses the modern, secure, TLS protocol for transmitting authentication verification that most websites use today. The SRP protocol that 1Password uses is decades old and offers little or no benefit over this.
When authenticating, Bitwarden creates an encrypted hash that's different from your master password to compare with the server's copy to verify your identity. It cannot be used to decrypt your vault, so nothing of value would be gained by obtaining this hash, which is already transmitted securely.
